Families and Friends
- 2008-2009 Family Housing Information for State Competitions (PDF updated 10/10/2008)
From skiing to swimming, to basketball or track & field, Special Olympics is an opportunity for families to share in the accomplishment of their children. Be part of a year-round sports training and competition program that the whole family can enjoy.
Families are encouraged to get involved in Special Olympics by taking part in the family activities (tailgate parties, picnics, pizza socials, receptions) planned at each of the State Tournaments. Family pins are also distributed at the Family/Friends registration table at each State Game and are a way to show off the pride we have in our athletes.

Families can choose their level of involvement in the Special Olympics program. Some families provide not only encouragement and love, but may coach, offer transportation, assist with fund-raising, officiate, chaperone, and train other volunteers within their local agency. If you are interested in learning more about how you can involve a family member in Special Olympics, please request a Family Packet by e-mailing jmoen@specialolympicswisconsin.org with your name and mailing address.
Another way to be involved: be a mentor for Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs)
Athlete Leadership Programs train athletes to serve in meaningful leadership roles outside of sports in Special Olympics and in their communities. ALPs offers athletes an opportunity to participate in all aspects of the Special Olympics Wisconsin movement and is a Free program to athletes. If you know an athlete who would benefit from leadership training or if you would be able to serve as a Mentor, please fill out this online form for more information.
