Justin Duranceau

Dreaming of one day joining the Navy or the Airforce, Justin Duranceau is a big fan of history class where he loves learning about military life and the Vietnam and Civil Wars.

When he’s not reading books or learning in the classroom, he’s competing on the playing field. Justin has trained and competed in Special Olympics basketball, track, and bowling. Football and NASCAR are also passions of his – he admires drivers Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He has also proved to be a bit of a collector: he has NASCAR and eagle collections in his room.

Justin has competed in Special Olympics for two years now. His life is full of other activities, too: he has worked at Holiday Inn and Northern Valley Workshop, he likes to spend time playing with his nephews, and he enjoys all kinds of video games.

ALPs Ropes Course Video

Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs) is a Special Olympics International initiative that gives athletes a voice in the organization. ALPs can be informal as simple as a veteran athlete helping a new athlete feel comfortable, to formal such as our ALPs workshops and athlete councils.

Janesville Special Olympics Agency 7-02 has taken the ALPs philosophy and turned it into a great learning and trust-building experience for their local athlete input council. They decided as a group to go through a high ropes course together. Check out the video below.

Sportsmanship guidelines

Bryan Herrman, ALPs athlete and basketball player from Cumberland Wisconsin, took some time to share his insight on sportsmanship. Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) commends Bryan on taking a pro-active stance and breaking down his thoughts into specific behaviors. Read the sportsmanship guidelines.
